Mountain Bike Camp – Level 1&2
As of now, all weeks of Level 1/2 camp are sold out for 2021, but you can add your child to the waitlist by following the registration link below. It will ask for a credit card and show what the total amount would be, but not actually charge you unless something opens up and we check with you first.
This camp is for kids with Level 1 and Level 2 mountain biking skills. Kids will break into two groups after the first day of camp based on age/ability. New this year, we have included a few weeks with multiple locations (switching after Wednesday) in order to allow for more variety in terrain.
After a kid has become confident riding a bicycle on two wheels, with the ability to steer and brake the bike appropriately, we move into more skill development of bicycle handling, overall confidence, and building up young mountain biking ambassadors. We teach appropriate trail and group riding etiquette and build on the child’s ability to brake, steer, and handle the bicycle on gravel both uphill and downhill.
This level becomes the difference between a ‘beginner’ and an ‘intermediate’ mountain biker. Though age is not the determining factor, kids are usually at least 7 years old and have been riding a bicycle confidently for a couple years. With level 2 comes more substantial mountain biking with drills specific to handling a bicycle on singletrack. Capacity for riding grows to longer consecutive riding stretches, maintaining energy and enthusiasm for riding, and the ability to show multiple riding skills naturally.
Deciding between Explorers and Level 1/2 or Girls Beginner is one of more common questions for kids that are ~6-7 years old. The main difference between the camps is the length of the day and amount of mileage that will be covered throughout the week. Explorers might cover ~3-5 miles in a given camp day, while Level 1/2 and Girls Beginner will be closer to 10.
