FAQs

Where do the bike parade rides start?

Bring your bike and start at one of the five bike parade starting locations. Park there and go on an organized ride leaving at 10:30 with one of our Kids on Bikes Ambassadors as you make your way to Shooks Run Park.

Duck Duck Goose Gossage:
4.2 miles. Start at Goose Gossage Park. This route does have a few little hills where younger kids might walk their bike. There will be a few blocks of street riding, but the whole group will stay together to connect to the trails safely.

Rockin on Rock Island:
4.6 miles. Ride starts at Wasson Park and follows Rock Island Trail. There will be a few blocks of street riding, but the whole group will stay together to connect to the trails safely.

Shake it on Shooks Run:
2.0 miles. Ride starts at Bonforte Park. This is the shortest route and is also nearly flat. It is entirely on trails, with a few street crossings. We highly recommend that the smallest riders join this ride, especially those with Strider bikes or training wheels.

America the Beautiful All-Stars
5.5 miles. Ride starts at America the Beautiful Park. This is our standard Popcycle Ride route, with the added connection to Shooks Run Park. There will be a few blocks of street riding, but the whole group will stay together to connect to the trails safely.

Wild West Side Ride:
5.0 miles. Ride starts at Bristol Park, beside Bristol Elementary School. We have added a west side ride for the first time ever! This route is mainly on trails with a small section of street riding at the beginning of the ride, but the whole group will stay together to connect to the trails safely. It is recommended for older kids (8 and up).

Where is the Carnival?

You will ride your bikes as a group with a Kids on Bikes Ambassador to Shooks Run Park. The Carnival will be at Shooks Run Park.

How can I help?

Volunteers are needed to help lead rides and staff the carnival games.

Ride leaders will meet at one of five different ride locations, and will be responsible for leading your group to the Shooks Run Park by following the assigned route. The commitment will be from 9am-11am on August 26th. And you will need to attend a short ride leader training session prior to the event.

All Carnival stations will be located in Shooks Run Park. You will need to arrive at 10:00am to help finish event set up, and stay through the end of the event at 1pm.

All volunteers will be provided with a free Great Bicycle Carnival t-shirt.  Sign-up to volunteer here.

Can we just come to the Carnival?

Yes but just be aware that parking might be scarce. You may use street parking on Franklin, Willamette, and El Paso. You can also come without bikes if you choose.
